• White Superficial Onychomycosis

White Superficial Onychomycosis Superficial White Onychomycosis is a fungal infection which affects only the surface of the nail. Individuals with this form of infection will see white spots, usually in clusters, on the nail surface. In other words, it will be on the very top of the nail itself.

This white-superficial onychomycosis will not be uncomfortable, or painful. The infection is often seen when little cuts, or slits, occur on the surface of the nail. It can also occur through the edges of the nail. This is normally caused by trichophyton interdigitale.

Children can also be infected with white-superficial onychomycosis. Usually, the treatment will involve scraping the nail surface. If necessary, a 40% urea solution will be used in the dermatology clinical setting. After the scraping session is complete, a nail lacquer will be applied to the specific nail. This lacquer is applied daily to the nail surface.

If the white surface still exists, monthly scraping sessions are necessary. Sessions are used until the healthy nail has time to grow out and replace the old nail area. Sometimes, an oral medication is needed.

For home treatment of superficial-white onychomycosis, you can lightly file the white spots and apply a nail fungal remedy. Remedies can include nail soaks, or topical agents. In order to gain the best control over this form of onychomycosis, as well as any other form, good hygiene is needed by the individual. Keep the nails clean and dry as much as possible.

Using nail clippers (which are not used for any other person or purpose) trim the nails regularly. Using a nail file is also good as long as it is solely used for the infected nail. Do not share the files, or clippers, with anyone else. This will help to prevent spread of infection.

Apply home remedy solution to the nails twice each day. Allow time for the new nail to grow and replace the out nail. As the nail grows out, be sure to keep it short and trimmed.

The best option to cure nail fungus is to prevent them in the first place. Always protect your fingers and toes from injury. When visiting public places, such as swimming pools, always wear shoes. Wear gloves when you are working in wet areas or with chemicals on a regular basis.

When you first notice the white-superficial onychomycosis, and then begin treatment right away. Do not wait for the nail to get worse. Waiting can cause more problems including the nail thickening, and becoming weakened.
